Anyone know when the skool olidaze are over the next few years then - so I can hoik up the prices on mi boats fer hire?
Sounds good. Monday p'raps a more reflective day, getting o'er the handover and fixing trucks before setting of 'ome :-)
Actually, if we're talking Derbyshire, I'll bring Grumble and Bungle, (our 101 GS) - folk without landies at the gathering can then play with a 101 a bit.
I've often questioned the assumption that the Irish are thick. (Actually, did look at buying a place there a few years ago, but my retirement plan has changed to more fluid recreational exploits).
Well, I don't know about thick, but there's an awful lot of religion and fighting out there! Last time I was there, I think the churches outnumbered the houses and the taxi driver decided to take us sharp-suited briefcase-carrying English gents straight from the airport onto an unannounced, very silent, tour around the rough estates with their territorial flags, murals and colour-coded kerbstones. Then while at work up at the Stormont Assembly there was a bomb scare one day and a police raid and IRA spy arrest on another.
Another time I went there I was with an irrepressible drunk Welshman during the height of the rugby season, I think the tables got turned slightly on that trip!
The Irish republic perhaps, Northern Ireland I'm not so sure about..
Basically it changes depending on your local authority although you could probably trawl through them to get an average.
I am in theory booked out on an off-roading weekend but if that doesn't go through and you're all not more than about 4 pinz hours away then I might make it. On my local club's off-roading outings I tend to end up leading a group so dropping it is hard to do as otherwise it puts more load on the bods who have already worked their arses off to make the weekend work, and that's not a good thing to do!
Mind you I don't even know where Derbyshire is! Is that north, south, east or west? Of the country, not of me..
I spent a few bits of time in Belfast many years ago.
On one occasion we happened to get booked into 'a certain' hotel. Whilst booking in, the receptionist took great pride in telling us that "this is the most bombed hotel on the planet", along with all of the areas we should avoid. We then got taken out by a couple of locals who worked in the hotel as cleaners and porters. Had an ace time, in 'both' areas - and yes, got some good pics of all the murals (many of which are now protected as works of art - rightfully so IMO).
Religion and Politics has caused more harm than almost anything else, we were into our music, and together we proved that you can have firm faith, and political allegiance, but if your interest in music is firm, and you STFU about Religion and Politics, you'll always find an extended family.
Mind, the place we looked at buying was in County Clare, in ROI :-) (Here, in fact:
It's a strange place! Never sure if I liked it or not, but hard to really tell when you're there for a week at a time on work and flying home at the weekends.
On the one hand, modern city with all the new flashy stuff, on the other hand, articles on the local news about strip bars being raided on moral grounds and taxi drivers moaning about line dancing being banned due to sexual content. Mind you, when some granny gets a law pushed through to ban S&M sex videos in the UK due to them "encouraging murder", you've got to wonder how far ahead or behind we are.
After reporting to work, we were told that under no circumstances should we use the black cabs, especially if we were going to the Stormont buildings (guess what we took from the airport when we got the free "tour"). Our hotel was fine, can't remember the name but I do remember the cooked breakfast, the finest I've ever had and makes me hungry thinking about it now, in fact I can smell bacon and taste soda bread right now.
We didn't go that far, just found out where the "decent" guinness was sold (it's still shit compared to warm English ale) and sat there surrounded by tatooed blokes with big dogs. With a drunk welshman, while the rugby was on.
OK, my musical tastes are Rachmaninov, Edgar Varese, Mantronix, LL Cool J, Public Enemy, general dance music, and Motorhead. I can really blend in...
All well and good, but where's the barn? My house is far too big for me, and my garage is far too small, I'd love a large warehouse with a flat above it, ideally an ex commercial garage with living accomodation and the vehicle ramps intact ;-)
(yes I am single)
You get estate agents who specialise in equestrian properties, but where are the ones who specialise in car nerds?

property in Eire has gone silly now, anyway, or had last I looked. I gather Portugal is quite nice if you stay away from the tourist traps, although of course they all talk funny over there :-)
Course, when you put it like that, it makes absolute sense. However I would like to point out one thing. STOP BEING A SMARTYPANTS OR I'LL SCREAM. Thank you.
Actually, I am pretty sure, aged mind notwithstanding, that there was a 'do' we attended, maybe Festival of Transport at Ardingly in East Sussex some (cough) 30 odd years ago when the Bank Holiday Monday was in September. P'raps my GIMP can go GREP in on Google? ;-)

I'd say that if we use either of the midlands-ish ideas it'd be well within
4 pinz-hours. Derbyshire tends to be a bit further. Significantly north of Birmingham, yer Derbyshire.
Just looked. Derby itself is about 40 miles north of Brum, and Derbyshire extends further than that - Matlock, for example, is a fair bit further and AFAIK is also in Derbyshire.
It's not silly-far from here - not as bad as Yorkshire.
I popped Derbyshire into google maps and it basically told me Derbyshire is in Matlock (I suspect it's the other way around), and that's about 4.5 pinz-hours away which is doable.
I'll keep an eye on the locations you johnnies throw around and if the local do doesn't go ahead I'll see if I can afford the fuel!
That particulat cottage has doubled in value since we looked at it - plus earns a very good annual income from holiday lets. If it were more accessible to us (mind, Galway airport is only half an hour away) we would probably have taken it.
