towing lights

I was wondering why the indicator for a trailer comes on in my disco even when there is none attached - is there a way to fix it so it works how the handbook says it should work. Also I have a squeak in a 300tdi Disco from the belts which I have been fixing with copious amounts of silicone spray - has anyone found anything longer lasting or does anyone know of a permanent fix such as changing the brand of alternator or the like

Hi Shaun,

You don't say how the handbooks discribes the working of the light, but the correct way for the light to work, is it gives one flash without the trailer on and when the trailer is attatched it flashes all the time, unless there is a fault.

And re the belt, I beleive the cure is clean the pullys with Emery cloth and fit a Good quality belt.

Steve.

Depends how it's working ...

My trailer indicator lights for the first flash of the indicators, but doesn't flash for subsequent flashes in the same indication sequence. When a trailer is attached, then the trailer icon lights every flash to indicate that the trailer, and it's electrics, is still attached and working properly.

Is your trailer icon flash sequence different to this then ? If it's on every flash then I'd check the trailer socket connection / wiring and earth to it.

Graphite powder, for locks, bought from a local locksmith for a coupla quid .. squirt a couple of puffs onto the belt. After a couple of weeks, or the first deep water off-road, the squeak returns. Another few puffs and the squeak is gone. Repeat the process as required, but my squeak now stays away for maybe three months at a time ... and the intervals between squeak and no squeak are getting longer each time ... ;)

lucky ol' you then.

the one on the 110 does that, except for not flashing the self-test flash, which I don't think it's meant to. The one on the disco does the self-test thing but declines to flash when the trailer's connected.

Maybe you only 'think' you've attached the trailer ...

The problem is the tension roll that squeeks, I had it changed and had no problems with that anymore.
