Yes, and yes. I have a Jeremy Fearn intercooler in my 200tdi Disco and it rocks. Better fuel economy and far superior power when you floor it.

Have been using an Allard made one since 1996. The car is a 200Tdi Discovery.

Excellent upgrade both in terms of better fuel economy and power and torque gains.

Highly recommended.

Back in 1996 Allard was the only one offering the larger intercooler tuning option but nowdays there are several people and companies doing them.

Shop around for prices but be careful to ask a total price including hoses and fittings.

BELL is offering the cheaper prices but my firsthand experience with the tested workmanship is with Andy Graham. But when he was working for Allard.

Mind you though making a good intercooler is not exactly rocket science since everybody is using the same raw materials. Most probably the most important item, the air passage core with fins, comes from the same source. It is just a matter of whether you prefer the welding to be like fine lace or like a war surgeon's stitching.

In any case better results can be achieved by also altering the turbocharger's operating pressure and tweaking the fuel pump (or in the case of electronic 300Tdi fuel pumps adding a "black box")

Looking at the past posts about uprated intercoolers. Surely the fuel must be increased to gain anything. Simply adding more air isn't going to improve anything - is it? Cheers, Peter

yer not adding air, you're cooling air, thereby a) making it more dense (so effectively you *are* adding air, but not the way you mean) and b) omproving the thermal efficiency.

intercoolers are an issue woth turbos - fit a turbo and it heats the incoming air charge, which makes it hot and less dense, which 2 things are bad. Intercooling cools it again, bigger intercooler cools it more.

You probably can, having cooled the incoing charge better, up the fuelling very slightly.

The other thing you can do, though not recommended as a DIY tweak, is to up the boost a bit, having fitted a bigger intercooler, and actually increase the amount of air coming in to the system. If you do this without increasing the intercooling, the whole thing gets hotter and you don't gain much except the risk of melting things.

A good question followed by an informed and appropriate reply.
