300 tdi intercooler

They are the same. The most eftecfive way the cleam them is with petrol - but that's now offically naughty so don't do it! Basically your trying to get rid of oil + bult up deposits, so a good degreasant will help, possibly with caustic soda (that's proababy naughty too though, these days!) for the stubborn bits. If it hasn't been cleaned for a while (if ever), the difference can be quite dramatic - it's supposed to be done at something like 80,000 miles.

Not sure if they are the same but I cleaned mine out with parafin (laid it down, filled it up and let it soak for a few hours before shaking it back and forth and emptying it out). The amount of rubbish that came out of it was pretty impressive - this was at 130k.

As he says, the most effective way is with petrol or a solvent but do*not* use caustic soda as the intercooler is aluminium and you won't have an intercooler left!

Don´t see why caustic soda wouldn´t work very well. Its not like its a fast dissolver of aluminium, or one that etches unlimited.

Had a dig around in the garrage and found a can of degreaser/panel wipe stuff I will give that ago on the disco one Ive got knocking about then its just a straight swap :-)
