Where's the cheapest source of new tyres?

The Disco needs a couple of tyres - the rears have been looking a bit sad for a while (cracked rubber on the side walls suggests they've been on for some time) but I noticed this morning that one of them decided to take a complete break from supporting the back o/s during Xmas day. It's pointless having it repaired, so I'll take the plunge and replace them both.

They are 235/70 R16 and, looking at the web, prices vary wildly (plus some charge for valves, balancing and disposal of your old tyres, whereas others quote inclusive of this). Can anyone recommend a source? I'm in west Essex.

Regards,

- Tom.

Tom,

are you a member of the Discovery Owners Club?

if you are (and its really really worth it!) then go to

and you get an extra 5% discount!!!!

I got a set of goodyear AT's fitted at home (the nice man comes out with his van!) and all done for less than £80 a corner - all in!

Cant recommend this lot enough, and even if you aren't a DOC member, the prices are very reasonable (the price you see is the price you pay fitted, balanced, valved, wherever you want it to happen)

And, if you order before about 3pm they can generally do next day.

(and I have nothing to do with them whatsoever other than being really, really impressed with them)

the "wherever" aspect is nice. Last disco tyres I bought were Avon Ranger AT which cost about 300 quid a set of 4 fitted balanced etc. but I had to go to the tyre place.

seemed good tyres. can't comment on durability, 'cos I sold it soon afterwards. However, I reckon the TDi will get some if we keep it.

FWIW, I don't much like fitting tyres in pairs on the constant 4x4 ones, unless you've bought one with 2 near-new and 2 shagged. Generally try to arrange it that it gets a set of 4 new ones at the same time.

i bought some colway MT 235/85x16 tyres at 50 quid each inc vat and carriage .

they do new and remoulds .

also look at PADDOCKS special offers page , they have some spanish remoulds in all types of treads and are quite cheap .

you probably want new tyres but sowden tyres do all types , whatever youre looking for they have it
