Will Disco fit in drive thru car wash ?

Stupid question but will the Disco go through a drive thru car wash ? I thought I'd ask as getting it scratched would not be good !

PS has anyone had any experience of removing the CAT from the exhaust (300Tdi), I have been told that there are power gains to be had with no drawbacks.( no Greenpeace greenhouse gasses responses please - the emissions from my Disco pale into insignificance when millions of gallons of aviation fuel are burned directly into the atmoshphere- no cats on a 747!)

I took my 90 through a Sainsburys car wash once.

Put it this way, the force that thing pressed in the roof with, if it hadn't of had a roll cage, i dont think its would have stayed water tight!!

Had mine through loads of times, no bother. Don't now though - with a roof rack it is not a good idea!

Assuming it of the right year, ask at your local MOT station, just replace the whole system with the non-cat version. Usual disclaimers about the legality of that statement.....

Depends on the car wash. Check with the staff. If you have roof bars it will be more tricky.

roofbars ... no problem either (on a rangie) although admitably the first time I though It might peel the roof off like a sardine can

taken through many times now never had any problems.

next time I have the topbox on its getting a wash too!!!

If I remember correctly if its newer than 1993 or 1994(can't remember which)then you have to have the cat fitted as it would have had one as standard. Only those built before then can have them removed and a have a replacement fitted minus the cat.

As for the car wash - I've taken mine through on a couple of occassions, but generally it gets an wash before we go on holiday and Bruce uses the pressure washer.

For the MOT no vehicle has to have a cat fitted as long as it passes the emissions test and all diesel are tested the same irrespective of whether a cat is fitted

succinctly put. I was about to put something similar.

I reckon that if I fix the electronic distributor I could get my 110 through the BET, with a bit of tweaking.

I put the Defender through yesterday, and height-wise no problem, (max height of 2.65m). It was *very* muddy, but it managed an OK job of the body work. The Def is much more boxy than the Disco and it struggles with some areas like the front bulkhead where the air flaps are, the back with the spare wheel and some of the big corners. But it is so LOUD in a Hard top, nearly as bad as a hail storm!

I wouldn't bother paying for a chassis spray, as the Def (and Disco) are too high off the ground for it to do any good, most of it misses out the side.

Interesting to see what happens with a roof rack though, many places have a no roof-bar/rack policy....

No longer have a hose at home, which for me is by far the best for a thorough clean!

Wonder if an external cage counts as a roofrack?

Min used to go through the car wash Ok, but you did have to be careful to line it up straight and in the middle.

Yes, I did is hundreds of times but...

The big wheels can cause a problem, they easily bounce out of the track;

- Don't let the steering wheel run free! you will get a rollercoaster ride through... Let the car find its way by allowing small corrections only.

- Keep the engine running, car in gear. Most commen thing to go wrong is that the wheel climbs up half-way out the track, letting the push-roll slip underneat it. Give some counter steering and let the clutch come up a little/set the shifter to D to correct this.

- Fold the mirrors in, some carwash brushes have rubber flaps rotating at just that hight leaving a nasty scratch on the plastic.

at last; My deep steel rims wrecked a washer once... The rim brush got stuck inside, behind the steel, while the push-roll didn't stop. The rimwasher ended up completely bend and out of order for two weeks.
