Wobbly drag link Def 300tdi

Sep 17, 2003 3 Replies

I usually use the drag link bar to pull myself out from under the Defender when fiddling underneath. Yesterday I noticed that the drag link end (not the one that meets the steering damper, but the one with the castel(?) nut) was fairly loose. Not rattling loose, but easy to move around.

Have I just not noticed this before and it is normal or is on its way out?

Its meant to have movement. Its not meant to have play in it though. If you can wobble it its fine. Have someone wiggle the steering while you hold it and if you can feel any "clicking" its worn out. (Obviously I expect you'll take the obviuous precautions while lying under a vehicle - - - - - - )

Mike.

Well, if it stops you being crushed / rolled or driven over / mangled by bits of moving machinery / bits of muck falling in your eyes, why not!
