2008 GX 470 driveline clunking problem before 5000 miles!

Looks like the infamous GX "clunk" problem is still there (since

2003-) and Toyota hasn't been able to fix it for some reason. TSB #DL002-07.

"I took my 2008 GX 470 in yesterday for the 5k service and told the SA about the Clunk. He special ordered the parts and it should be arriving next week. Frustrating part is that Lexus is waiting for people to complain instead of putting the driveshaft and control arms into line production. SA said that he's already done a couple of

2008's already." -ClubLexus.com by gx470law

"My 2006 GX470 has the same "clunking" noise problem I brought it in for the 5K mile check up and was told that the drive shaft needs to be replaced. 3 months later, I am still waiting for the "back-ordered" part. When you purchase a "luxury" vehicle, you should expect great customer service & response time. So far, I am very disappointed."

"I own a 2004 GX 470 and noticed the clunking defect in the transmission right away. It doesn't happen all the time and the dealership back in 2005 couldn't duplicate it so they said "oh well".

Sure hope you didn't buy one Long Dong.

You DO own a Lexus, don't you? Otherwise why would you be slinking around in such a sub-par newsgroup? Surely the BMW and Mercedes groups have much more intelligent participants than this one does. Oops! I just called you stupid, didn't I? Oh well.

So Glga, how long have you been unable to hear short bass sounds that many folks would describe as "Clunk"? ou really do need to get that checked out before you go totaly deaf.

  1. How old are you?

BTW -- my wife's previous car was an '03 GX470, and yes, it clunked as well. I had it repaired, and the clunk, clunked no more. Simple, easy, and free. No hassles, no excuses, just great professional service. Came with a free loaner, wash, vacuum, donuts, AND coffee. I also got a peronsal apology from the dealership manager (not a big deal, but certainly a nice gesture). Personally, I have the means to buy pretty much any car I want, and the only car I've owned since 1990 is Lexus. Being an engineer by trade, I'm pretty picky about the quality and implementation of my toys, so I'd have to say they're doing something right.

All righty then.
