1.7CDTi 16V ?

So was my mate right about it being an Izuzu engine (that had mechanical fuel injection etc). He said he looks after one an a customers G plate vehicle and that also drinks juice?

the isuzu engined vans are certainly OK on fuel. their major fault was valve recession IIRC

This is the 1.7 diesel models specifically you mean?

It was things like that that I was open to. I'm guessing low compression = low performance = lower mpg (and I wouldn't know if the engine power we right or not, never having driven that model before).

I mean, the OBD / Torque combo could be wrong. As could the owners memory of how many miles he gets to 20 quids worth of diesel?

However, my old (200,000) mile Rover 218SD used to do around 150 miles to 20 quids worth so even 90 is a good way sort of that?

Daughters Corsa 1.2 16V regularly does 150+ miles on 20 quids worth and the Torque app reflects that in both real time and average.

Oh well, hopefully whatever he finds next will be better. ;-)

Yes - Isuzu engine. Very durable motor. Roots are tracable to the old 1.7TD which would do interstellar mileage.

I would not be believing your OBD mpg 'calculator' one little bit!!

Ok, but what about the owners admission that '20 quid gets him 70-90 miles'? Couldn't the engine / fuel injector pump be bad / off tune / worn sufficiently to take it down 10 mpg?

And we aren't saying that limp is unreliable, just that this one didn't seem very economical?

FWIW he was using the car for cabbing so must have put a few gallons though it to know such figures off the cuff as he did?

When we first got given the Meriva (Dad died) the mpg was quite poor (31's). It turned out it was a partially stuck stat and replacing that (along with the cam belt, tensioners and water pump) caused the MPG to improve quite a bit (37's) (especially over longer journeys (of course)).
