12v auto jump start tool ... any good ?

Might depend on the definition of modern; anything post-'97 should have an immobiliser

It didn't change as precisely though. The remote rod change is a much better change. Having said that, you are right that Issigonis got very few things wrong in the original design, and a lot of the later modifications were cost-driven.

Was that a Mk1 or 2?

The rear brakes on the Mk1 were err... dire!

Have you ever driven a wand type where you know it's in good condition? There was a clamp which had a habit of coming lose. Tightening that made it pretty positive. Much better than the usually worn out linkage on the later ones. Same with the 1800. The early much criticised cable change lasted very well. The later one had bearings which wore out in short order. So it may have been slightly better when new but not a few miles down the line.

They worked ok when everything was in good condition and lubricated. Fabulous handbrake too. ;-)

Mine was a MkII. Being an early MkII it had the 948 engine and two-tone upholstery, relatively rare. Never had a MkI but I know the mechanicals of the rear brakes were not great.
