I have bought a halfords trolley jack (yellow one) which comes in a moulded box. Had a play with it and its quite nice.
Now onto finding some adequate axle stands.
I have found these ones
Any thoughts on this axle stand welcomed.

Your average small/medium car weighs approx 0.75 - 1.25t. 2t gets you a 4x4 or people carrier. Bear in mind that the rated weight of axle stands is likely to be quoted per pair, ie 1t per stand. This gives you plenty of safety factor for the majority of cars.

Thanks for that not really up on what rough weights are. The draper ones are
2t each. So looks like they will suffice for a budding hobbyist.
At 2t each, they're nearly strong enough to use on an axle on my artic=20 trailer, empty of course.

I'm really a nice guy. If I had friends, they would tell you.

I think all the axle stands look adequate, my only comment would be that the type where the height is locked with a pin ....... Eventually the chain will break and then the pins will get lost and you will end up using an old bolt instead. Pay the extra fiver and get the ratchet type, they will last you a life time, long after the extra fiver is forgotten. Steve the grease

Not forgetting that you'll almost certainly only be lifting one end of that ton and a quarter - the other end will be supported by the wheels still on the ground.
The Draper is thankfully the rachet type.
So hopefully I'll get a lifetimes use out of them.
What rating is the jack?
Its a 2 tonne. and a lifting range of 14-38cm.
It can be seen here
This weeks Lidl special have a 2tonne trolley jack £9.99. Not sure what lifting range and doesn't come with storing case.
Well if the jack is rated at 2 tonnes then I don't know why you're worried about using stands rated at 2 tonnes.
I wouldn't stick my head under a car supported by only a jack. I have with axle stands...
