Vauxhall Sensors....



Unfortunately she's married.....:-) Please can anyone help? My wifes Corsa, a 1.2L Ecotec 16v X Reg has a repeatable problem. She will start the car from cold and drive until the engine comes up to temp. As soon as the car get to temperature it will misfire once with a jolt. After this any drop in engine revs will cause the car to stall. (Then every bloke on the road wants to help her)



On restarting the ECU or emmissions fault light will come on and stay on. From here on the car drives roughly as though it is in limp home mode.



If she leaves it overnight the following morning the lamps will be reset and the fault starts again when she drives off.



To date I have replaced the plugs, tested the Lambda sensor, cleaned the throttle servo and checked the oil temp sensor.



Before I take it to a dealer to get ripped off I would like to test the Flywheel sensor or CAM sensor and maybe the Mass Air Flow sensor if I can find them.



Please can someone point me in the right direction for information.

Best getting the code pulled before prodding sensors. The sensors are located:

  1. Crank (flywheel) sensor - no where near the flywheel, it's at the back of the engine pointing at the crank pulley for the alternator belt etc.
  2. Cam sensor is located at the flywheel side, embedded in the head.
  3. MAF is located somewhere in the intake piping, downstream of the throttle body.

I found the cam sensor, couldn't really test it as it looks like it has some signal conditioing inside.

Found the MAF sensor and disconnected it while engine at idle. Engine revs went up and then came down and stabilised, so think this is ok.

Could not get at crank sensor but at least it looks like it's not any of the expensive sensors.

Don't discount the MAF sensor just because it seemed OK with a quick check. I recently made this mistake and it cost me a lot of time and frustration. You need to connect to the sensor wiring and watch it's voltage with the engine running, until the problem shows up.

I've just replaced mine - it would appear to be fine most of the time, then suddenly the voltage from the sensor would jump up and the engine would then misfire or stall. It was intermittently giving a false (high) air reading to the ECU, and this was fooling it into overfuelling and causing similar misfiring/stalling problems to your wife's.

If you don't have time to stand and watch it, you could simply unplug it for a couple of days and see if the stalling goes away. The car won't run as smoothly but it might eliminate the problem. I did this with mine to get it running reliably, until I got a replacement, and it ran fine without it for over a week.

You can take this car to the best Vauxhall dealer in Town, they will tell you all sorts of rubbish, I know exactley what the problem is and you wont believe it, on the inlet manafold there is a sensor right at the back, remove it and get a new one =A312.00 as soon as you connect it back up the engine management light will go out, thats it that simple trust me I when to 3 Vauxhall Ripoff merchants and not one could resolve the problem, they had every bit of diag equiptment you could think off.

Anyway =A312 try it.
