Almera Gear Box

Jun 29, 2006 2 Replies

The gearbox on my wifes Almera has started making strange whirring noises indicating it could be on its way out. But before getting a new gearbox I'd like to top up/check the gearbox oil level. Is it filled up and checked using the same hole? Where abouts is the hole? Is it the bolt near the engine number behind the sensor connected to the exhaust?

Any help appreciated Neil

As you haven't mentioned a dipstick, I assume this is a manual transmission.

My Haynes manual covers years 95 to 00. It says to fill right up to the filler hole. This is at the front of the transmission, facing the radiator. It has a plug with a square recess for the plug spanner. A drive bar for a 3/8" socket is a slightly loose fit, and should do to remove it provided it's not sized in too tightly.
