Hiya does anyone know if the Mk4 Astra G has a timing belt or chain and at what mileage should I be thinking about changeing this.

hello,
Every 40,000 miles according to the main dealer. it's a belt on that model.
Have roller and tensioner replaced with the belt- there is a kit available.

Have the water pump checked while they've got the old cambelt off - it's a new belt anyway if the pump goes, so it's probably worth getting it done at the time. (£30 for a pump)
If the pulley bearings go on the water pump, the play will nick the teeth on the belt so most garages will refuse to put the belt back on again.
