atra mk3 multec CFi single point injection problem

Funny that, my 1994 Rover 214SEi does the same. Revs drop down to 400RPM, but it recoveres after a second. I think it's gonna cut out but it never does (touch wood).

first thing is plugs

Firstly check the HT components for being in 1st class order, plugs, leads, cap, rotor arm etc. Also check the emissions are good, and the engine is reaching full temperature.

I'd then have the injector ultra sonicallycleaned, and the throttle body cleaned.

If its then no better its most likely coked up inlet valves. As this is a "wet" inlet system, the valves are wet with fuel most of the time. During over-run the ECU shuts off the injector and the fuel evaporates off the valve stems and heads. If these have alot of carbon etc on them, which acts like a sponge, when the fuel comes back on they absorb it for a short period. Not all the correctly calculated fuel reaches the cylinders, so you have a brief lean condition which gives rise to the hesitancy.

You can try the various injector / inlet / valve cleaner, also pouring redex in [1] with the engine at a fast idle at such a speed whereby it eventually chokes and stalls. Let it sit over night. Clean the plugs, and when the smoke has subsided it may have cleaned some of the carbon off the valve backs..
