OP's charger was dis-owned by Noah I should think - I've had it a gd few years - and t wasnt new then - it was being used a a permanent float charger on a boat I used - a Gunson 12v Automatic Battery charger 'Electronically Controlled' for Lead/Acid batteries. Keep thinking about buying a new one but get confused when looking so don't end up leaving shop with one!
Ah- it's 'electronically controlled', that indicates it's a bit more sophisticated than the bargain basement ones and it's *probably* safe. It will probably manage the charge and take into account the extra load, but it may take a very long time to charge two massive batteries if it's a car battery charger.
Are they definitely 700A/H batteries? The average car charger could take over a week to charge one of those!

88amp/hr and Cranking amps 700 - D13x30(??) These figures are def. right as I've just read them from battery!
Then they aren't 700AH capacity are they? They are 88 AH but have the capability to deliver 700A (which seems a bit high to me BICBW).
No - you're right I spose - hands up high! it says 700A Cranking - unless Exide lie....... :-) ....... which I dont think they do! Do I take it that I should have different batteries/capacities for my purposes then?
Depends what you do. 700A won't start a NA diesel Landrover.

88AH means it'll deliver 88A for an hour - or 44A for 2 hours, or 1A for 88 hours. This is the rated capacity of the battery - how much it'll do for how long. 700A means it's capable of delivering 700A. Briefly. In this case, for about 7.5 minutes, theoretically.... This might, p'raps, be useful on a very cold morning when you're trying to start the damn thing with the lights, wipers and heated front and rear windows on.A 700AH battery would be carryable with a forklift truck, unless you're in line for a Nobel prize.

Oooohhhhhhkkkkkkkk..........so........for a Detroit 6V-71 engine - that gets used/started/moved varying distances about 3/4 times a year and I'd like to think that itd start on a cold and frosty morn - what do I REALLY need? capacities etc and any preffered makes?
