Studded is a legal requirement in winter there. But ice remains ice and snow remains snow, give the average Brit studded tyres and they'll likely just get up a bigger head of speed and do more damage in the ensuing accident. Then still prolly visit a NG to see how to screw the council or stud manufacturer for compo! (being too lazy to work it out for themselves)
More than likely the camber of the road that guided you towards the curb - IMHO you were just a passenger at this point.

For about 3 weeks solid the M56 had "Gritting in progress" matrix messages.
I never once saw a gritter in that whole time, and drive about 1/2 it's length every morning and evening. Mind you I didn't see any snow either.
