BMW 320 Diesel

I will soon be getting rid of my J reg 318 estate and I want a 320 diesel estate. 330 would be nice but there don't seem to be that many and they are pricey. I understand that the engine changed around 2002 and it is better to get a newer one. Is there an easy way to spot and old 320 diesel engine and the newer type? Kevin

No they didnt "change" i.e. one engine type to another, it just became 150 brake instead of 136. In late 2003 the 150 became the 163 also. Same engine. Just more turbo failures...!

They must have changed something, where did 14bhp come from. Just that the guy who does my servicing suggested getting the later one.

In a nutshell all they changed is the ECU software. (though there are some detail changes between the 136 and 150 units.)
