britannia rescue v.s AA/RAC

Away from home, diesel Focus cut out suddenly and I saw thatthe temp guage was off the scale.No water. When engine cooled down as fast as I poured it in,it poured out from bottom back left hand side of engine.Called Britannia. Guy came, said that it's the water pump,I'll take the car to a local garage (where it will be till Tuesday).1. do these symptoms sound like it's the water pump?2. if I'd belomged to the AA / RAC, would they have fixed it at the roadside?TIA,|I

My statement regarding the likelihood of the AA/RAC to repair when compared the the other services was based on breakdowns in general, not this specific one.

Cam belt! Well on the 2002 model anyway! Paid a small fortune to have mine changed in Feb.

On some cars when the water goes below the level of the temp sensor the water temp guage will actually go down first and only show high once the overheating has happened for a while. Cases of water leaking out are different to normal cases of overheating caused by stuck thermostats or non-functioning fans etc
