Will there be any problem in buying a 2nd car from a trader/private/auction but putting down somebody else as the new owner? The surname would be the same anyway.
Never bought a car before so I am not sure of the procedure of form filling/change of ownership etc
Doesn't matter, and anyway, the name you give is the *keeper* not the owner.
The thing to watch is that most insurance companies will ask if the policyholder is the keeper and owner.
Agreed, and the reason for this is to ensure a son/daughter/young un' doesn't own the car, and try to put the dad as the main owner/driver.
Also, in terms of future-proofing, having it in your own name should be fine.
You do realise buying a car at a car auction, or off autotrader, doesn't mean whoever pays for it is the actual registered keeper, right?
The owner could be specified as anybody, it's not registered on a document anywhere as such. The 'registered keeper' is the one who matters, yourself being better :-)
