Rumbling noise and smell of rubber ROver 600

Hi All



Have a 1998 Rover 600. I have a faint smell of burning rubber and a rumbling noise when I exceed 40mph.



The rumbling increases with road speed and not engine speed. It is no different when you change direction (lane change).



Any ideas. I hav elooked underneath , as it was suggested that a CV Boot may have collapsed but all looks good.

They all do that Sir...

Actually, I had somethihng along those lines when a sidewall had gone squiffy and the tyre had a big bulge on the inside wall. You could do worse than go over the tyres carefully...
