my renewal is up in a week and a half, i have had several online quotes, mostly around £300 to £350, for fully comp. but one came back at £228.00, this includes a fee for protection of my NCB.
the thing is i have never heard of or been with the company. its called NIG, that is all i knowabout it, do anyone on here know anything about the company. i would like to save the extra £100, but not at the cost of being messed around with should i ever need to place a claim.
the policy summary is the same as "Fortis" and "Allianz Cornhill "

Not used them for car insurance, but our household and business insurance is with NIG, never claimed so can't vouch for them in this regard.
So I guess this doesn't help much, although they've been around for at least 6 years.

Quite a few years ago, I had my car insured with NIG as they were the cheapest at the time (the insurance was though Swintons but the underwriters were 100% NIG).
During the course of the insurance (actually a month before the renewal date), I had an accident, which was my fault. Come renewal time, they loaded the premium by a whopping 95%. I asked how they can justify doubling the premium, but there response was "Well you have an outstanding claim against you, so until the claim is settled we are going to charge you for it".

Make sure you compare the voluntary and compulsary excesses between insurers.

National Insurance & Guarantee, never claimed but they've always been pretty cheap, first time I insured with them was at least 40 years ago.

I have a business policy with them. Had a claim about a year ago. No trouble at all. Easy to get hold of on the phone too.

NIG - I wouldn't give them many out of ten. They seem to be more keen on taking the easy way out than taking a stand on behalf of their customers.
I was an innocent party and NIG were quite happy to go along with a
50/50 deal as the third party suggested. I had provided photographs of the damage to both vehicles with my original 'story'.
In reply I suggested that the evidence indicated nothing other than that I was the 'victim' and provided further photographs showing the position of the debris on the road surface.
NIG's response was that there was nothing on the photographs to show that the debris belonged to the third party's vehicle and would not stand up in court.
I then suggested that they get 'someone who knows what they are looking for' to review the photographs repeating that my explanation of the events was the only one that held water. I asked for a copy of the third party's story (which they had not even requested!).
They then did an about-turn, said that they now agreed with my explanation and stated that the 50/50 proposal would be rejected. Fine - but the matter is still unsettled over a year after the incident. The car's mended but I've got a large excess and some no claims bonus to recover.
I won't be using NIG again.
Thanks for reminding me that I need to go on the attack again.

This would appear to be standard behaviour. They tend to do what is most cost effective for them regardless of what is best for you, whether you pay extra for the legal cover or not.
