To one degree or another this has been going on for years.
Yeah a lamp cover or a wheel but not half the bodywork.
1998-03 BMW 5 series 'sport' bumpers are a notorious one around London.
Discovery 2 facelift headlight units have to be nailed on to avoid losing them up north.
Although taking several panels & parts is particularly brazen.
