Car Tax question

Hi I have just agreed to buy a car off a dealer....I pick it up Saturday...I have to provide the tax disc (tight buggers) They have given me the Current MOT certificate and Registration Document (part off). I have informed my insurers who will send me the new certificate through in a few days . My query is with the registration document ..they have only given me the first page of it..the second page with the 'New keeper supplement' is missing. On the section provided is still the address of the old keeper (the one the garage got it off) and section 6 'New keeper or New Name/New Address details ' is not filled in. Will I be able to use this at the local post office to get a new tax disk ? along with form V10 ? Or will it be bounced and I need to get back to the dealer ? Thanks

As I understand it, the DVLA don't care who taxes a car - as long as the there is a valid MOT for it, and that there is insurance covering it. The fact the insurance would be in a different name to the keeper shouldn't matter.

Additionally, (I'm guessing!) you may not actually need to produce the V5 at all - if you can supply the necessary identifying information for the vehicle (and MOT, insurance + money!) - you'll probably be able to tax it.

When I taxed my current car (it was delivered to me on trade plates) I turned up at the post office with the new keepers supplement, an application form I'd downloaded from the DVLA, a cheque from a third party, and a cover note.

The only thing they wanted to see was the cover note, the cheque, and the new keeper supplement.

Well, a dealer can tax a car for you, so I'd guess what's needed is pretty flexible.
