Private Reg

Can anyone guide me as to wher eI may post the below question appropriately?

I had purchased last year a private registration plate from R**********.co.uk. It is now comming up for renewal.

I have not placed it on a vehicle and do not expect to do this over the next coupple of years. I am asked to pay £75 so my certificate does not expire and I loose it. I would like to own it myself and deal directly with DVLA rather than thru R***.co.uk. They have messed me about when I bought the mark initially.

Any guidance?

The plate doesn't need renewing...

...but the retention certificate might well do...

£25

Sounds like they still are.

Q - Do I have to put the registration straight onto a vehicle? A - No. You have until the expiry date shown on your V750 to put the mark onto a vehicle.

Q - What happens if I lose my Certificate of Entitlement (V750)? A - Write to us at DVLA Personalised Registrations, SV2, Swansea, SA99 1DN and we will issue a FREE duplicate certificate.

Q - How do I add or change the nominee details on my Certificate of Entitlement (V750)? A - Simply add the nominee details to section 1 of the certificate and sign (purchaser only) section 2. You should send your application to DVLA Personalised Registrations, SV2, Swansea, SA99 1DN together with a cheque made payable to DVLA for £25.

Q - How do I change the address on my Certificate of Entitlement (V750)? A - Simply complete section 5 of the Certificate of Entitlement (V750) and return it to DVLA Personalised Registrations, SV2, Swansea, SA99 1DN.

Q - How do I extend my entitlement period? A - If you are still not ready to put your registration mark onto your vehicle before the expiry date printed on your Certificate of Entitlement, then you can extend the entitlement period for 12 months for a fee of £25. Simply sign section 2 of the Certificate of Entitlement and send your application and cheque made payable to DVLA at DVLA Personalised Registrations, SV2, Swansea, SA99 1DN. Your application must be made before the certificate expires but only within 28 days of the expiry date.

Q - What happens if I've forgotten to extend my entitlement period? A - You will need to write us with a full explanation of why your application is late and enclose a cheque made payable to DVLA for the appropriate fee. The address is DVLA Personalised Registrations, SV2, Swansea, SA99 1DN.

Stick it on a car & then later place it on retention in your own name

This is what we do with the ones purchased from eBay

It is the Registration Entitlement certificate V750

I am told that because I was not the "purchaser / Grantee" I cannot renew diretly with DVLA SOM. for £25.00. I am told it will be rejected or the new certificate will be sent to Reg****transfers and they will only release it back to me on payment of the difference of £50.

Only the Purchaser NOT Nominee can sign the section as per Registration T***fers?!?!

Any advice.

I am sure this would cost more than £75.00!

This might sound a stupid question, but why did you buy a plate you don't want to put on a car...?

How long are you planning on having it on retention? And why NOT put it on a car?

If you have a retention certificate / certificate of entitlement, then it will only cost you the price of the actual number plates to be made up as the transfer fee's have already been paid.

So what did DVLA say when you rung them, Yaz?

Just in case you need your hand holding a little more, the phone number's on here.

DVLA say only the Purchaser ie R**T** can extend. But the charge of £75 they too though was high and were unable to control this.
