cav 1.7TD clutch cable

Hi,

The clutch cables is getting a bit frayed on my 1.7TD cavalier 1994 (isuze). Does anyone know whether or not the retaing plate on the engine side of the bulkhead needs to be removed/slackened to extract the cable, or will it come out to one side. The bolt holding the plate is pretty difficult to get at - if it does then I guess it's easier to remove the fuel filter for access.

An other tips appreciated.

Thanks

Jim

bad form replying to ones own posts..... However I can now answer the question Unfortunately the cable snapped mid week and ened up taking the car to the local garage complete with new cable I'd already purchased. Get car back and drive into town to find cable has gone out of adjustment and can't select first.

Opened the bonet to discover a)sheath of new cable snapped b) cable not located in guides c) retaining plate bent upwards - so that answers that question d)Large screwdriver wedged in the bracket holding on the fuel filter.

So a couple of questions, is it likely that the cable sheath will have snapped due to poor routing and/or faulty part and/or mishandling when fitting. Secondly, what should I do with the screwdriver?

Don't really want to piss of the garage as he's alwas been very fair come MOT time. Finding the screwdriver I wonder if he simply forgot to finish off under the bonnet and adjust the cable, although bending the plate back is a bit cowboyish.

I could tell you but it may not be a pleasant experience for the owner of the local garage if this is the result in having them fit the cable.
