I like the Galaxy diesel with the 130ps engine (2004/2006) but it only comes as manual. The next in line is the 115ps which is a bit underpowered for towing but does come as auto.
Are these in fact the same 1.9 engine with one just reworked to give more power? Would it be the case that a "chip" to increase power would bring the 115 up to the 130 or are there other things to consider?

The lower powered engine may not be intercooled, and the injectors themselves may be different. Otherwise, yes, it will be just as simple as a rechip. Don't forget to tell your insurer about the modification.
Main thing to consider is whether the auto is up to the extra torque. I suspect not if this combination isn't available.
I had heard that in some situations, when a manufacturer produces automatics with lower power than their manual version, this may be because the auto box may not be able to handle the extra power.
Is 15ps really that noticeable? I guess conversely, if it's not that noticeable, then maybe the difference isn't enough to cause problems for the auto box. ;)

It depends on what you're towing, but given you want the automatic you can just change down.
They are quite similar PD engines with a VNT turbo. Both are intercooled, but the injectors are probably different.
You should be able to chip the 115 up to around 130 without too much problem. Isn't the 115 and older car though? The 130 is a later engine.
The 115 is an 04 ... i presume a revamped 110 unit which started 2001 I think. The 130 is I think in 05 vehicles. Super chips say you get,from the 115, a 46bhp gain!! and a huge torque increase.They offer nothing in between.
The latest Galaxy is unrelated to the previous Ford/VW joint venture model, and as such uses a Ford/PSA DW10 2.0 engine rather than the VW
1.9 PD. The gearbox is also a completely different model, so there's no real value in comparing them.
As I understand, not quite: I seem to recall that the 130 has a different specification. It might be a different turbocharger, ordinarily I'd Google it, but this morning I'm not up to that.
There are other things to consider - specifically, how the transmission will cope with it. Is the reason why Ford used the 115 PS version of the engine because the transmission was torque limited (this looks likely given that the 130 wasn't offered with the automatic)? That 115 PS version produces
230 lbsft of torque as a manual. You might want to see if it produces less as an automatic (as some do).Another, lesser issue, is how well the transmission adapts to having more poke. Will it stay onto a higher gear for longer as it has enough acceleration for the driver demand? Or will it ignore the extra power?
As far as I am aware the 110 is an old style diesel wheras the 115 and
130 are PD units. If serviced properly they are good for 200K + miles but you must use the correct oil in them (I used to use Millers XF PD). Can't comment on the auto box longevity.The 115 and 130s have different injectors and probably much more. If you do buy one change the MAF. Buy a proper Bosch one not a cheap alternative. You will be amazed at the difference it makes.
