Diesel injector ( electronic ) ultrasonic cleaning

Jan 22, 2004 2 Replies

Hi,

Has anyone in this NG ever had their TDI or dTI ( direct inj / common rail ) injectors refurbed ?

Did it make an instant difference ?

I've got a price of £100 to get my Renault F9Q engine injectors ultrasonically cleaned, but I'm not sure whether it will just be a waste on money.

Would I be better off putting half a dozen doses of injector cleaner additive in my tank at a cost of say £30

Can anyone who owned a poor starting , hesitant, reduced mpg diesel whom had such an injector refurb carried out tell me whether they think it was worth the money and the result was noticeable.

Thx

Refurbed ones should have the opening pressure reset as well. The ultrasonic cleanings the cheap bit of the job

I've had injectors "done" before, not on my car but on JCBs / Tractors etc. It makes a difference in noise and smoke, but when your injectors are really bad it will make a difference in economy and performance too.

It's not purely a case of getting the injectors cleaned, they will also have their spray pattern checked (possibly have new tips fitted) and have their opening pressure adjusted.

Supposedly diesel injectors need this treatment every 60k miles.
