Escort model?

Dec 25, 2005 4 Replies

I have a 1994 Escort LX hatch with the 1.4 injection engine. I need a new hatch lock, and ebay have loads, but they are usually listed as for a Mk1, Mk2 etc. Does anyone know which Mk applies to my model.

Thanks Bill

A bit of a grey area, I've heard people refer to this model as a MK6 (1993 facelift) & then the facelift in 1995 as the MK7. More commonly, others refer to your car as a MK5 (they don't count the 1993 facelift, as it was only minor) & the 1995 facelift as a MK6. Be careful, best to ask seller before you buy.

Your Car is a MK5b I think.

MK5a is the one with a radiator grille that is 2 horizontal slats under the bonnet (part of the bumper) - H to early K Reg.

MK5b is the one with the oval radiator grille (in the bonnet) - late K to M Reg.

Just to make it more clear:

The MK5a and b has seperate front headlights and indicators.

The MK6 has front headlights and indicators that are part of the same unit.

There never was a MK7 in "Ford Enthusiasts eyes" :-)
