Fan permanently on on Rover 25

The fan on my wifes Rover 25 comes on when I start the engine, and stays on until it is turned off. I suspect (obviously) the temperature sensor has gone, but when I looked for it I found two sensors attached next to each other, one coming out sideways from the pipe, and the other one pointing almost downwards.

Clearly they can't be both for sensing temperature - does anybody who has worked on a Rover 25 know what the other one is for, and which one is which?

Cheers, Andy.

Not familiar with that car but will one temp sensor be for the ecu and t'other for the temp gauge?

They're both plumbed into the coolant pipe, so I don't think it will be air temperature (isn't that on the inlet manifold?)...

What he meant to say was, 1 Sensor for Dash temp gauge, and 1 for the ECU.

The diagram for the 200 shows a cooling fan relay, which looking at the wiring, is the one on the right-hand side of the engine compartment. Might be worth pulling it and seeing what happens.
