Hi



Wonder if someone out there can help me!


  1. When I have done a long(ish) journey - over 50 miles for example. The oil dipstick seems to pop it's head out so to speak. Im only talking and inch (if that) out of the hole, but I am intriguied whats causing this and how to stop it!


  1. Air conditionging has been regassed and leak checked. However, it doesnt always seem to "kick in". For example, if I have it on its coldest setting it will work fine and then stop - the fan keeps going but its not as cold.



I think this could be the air conditing system stopping and starting which it shoudnt do - any ideas? It does start again after its stopped but i dont understand why it is intermittent.


  1. I was in Halfords and saw this "stuff" that you put into your turbo charger which supposedly "cleans the engine and improves performance" - worth it? and how to i inject into the turbo?


  1. Timing Belt. Car has done 58000 and is Peugeot 406 Diesel. I am going touring Europe in the summer for a month and expecting to do around 6000 miles. Is it worth having this changed - more for my own peace of mind than anything else? Ill be close to the 75000 mark by the time I get back and from what I hear they last about 80000.

The message from "Oli" contains these words:

It's either loose, bent or is being pushed out by excessive pressure in the crankcase. It'd have to be a heck of a pressure to push out something as narrow as a dipstick though - the cross section of the bung can't be much more than 1/16 of a square inch. Is there a huge outrush of gasses if you take the oil filler cap off with the engine running? If so then you need to check your crankcase breathers. I'd check 'em anyway.

At its coldest setting, particularly if it's a humid day I suspect it may be icing up. Try running it at a more gentle setting and see if that helps.

Take a snake, oil it well, and thread it through the air intake. When it reaches the turbo, start the engine and give it a good thrashing. That's what I do with smake oil, anyway.

Me - I'd change it. You're going to do it anyway and if it stops you worrying when you're on holiday then ain't that better than having it on your mind the whole time?

How do I get to the crankcase breathers? And what do they look like?

Air conditioning makes no difference what temperature it is on, still kicks in and out. How about a relay somewhere?

Most air con systems go in and out , this prevents icing up.
