My fiesta (1996 ghia) wipers are making a slight "grinding" sound only after they have been on for more than 115 mins. It sounds like the cogs are not connecting together proper. Does anyone have an idea of what the problem is and what the remedy is.

Squirt some oil onto all the rods and cogs that make up the linkage between the wiper motor and the wipers. This could well stop the noise and avoid anything coming off later.
The message from "DP" contains these words:
Also check that the nuts holding the wiper arms to the shafts that stick up out of the bit in front of the window are tight.
114 minutes of trouble free wiping then?

That reminds me of a rainy night on the A14. It's actually quite easy to drive in the wet without wipers until another car's lights catch your windscreen. The culprit then was the nut that holds the linkages to the motor. It was very easy to put it back in daylight the next day but I didn't keep a torch in the car then :(
I think any wipers would make that noise if they were left on for nearly two hours, were do you live to have wipers on that length of time? ever heard of staying in when its raining that heavy?
