Focus....what engine do I have?

the diesel ones were so badly thought of by car dealers that some refused to part ex them unless they had a provably recent injection pump. I assume that is still the case. I have heard of dozens of examples of diesel focus needing new pumps and or injectors before 100k

Mine did have a new set of injectors at 30K (warranty job) and an EGR valve about a year ago. Clutch and DMF are fine touch wood. The 2.0 TDCI in the Focus is a Peugeot lump and they do make fairly decent oil burners.

Yes it is "decent" , but long lasting and problem free it is not.

I have a respected friend in the trade in the Souff who runs upwards of 50

2.0 and 2.2 TDCi Galaxy and S-Max's. And, here's a thing- Volvo 2.0d V50's as private hire cars. Reckons derv Foci can have serious electrical problems.

He's run practically most common things on the market, and learnt some lessons over the years. He buys them outright with standard 12month warranty. He changes them at 2yrs old and 140k max regardless, and services them at 10k intervals without fail.

He says he expects the clutch to be ok to be 140k, but if it shows signs of DMF or fuel problems its put in the auction pronto.

I was surprised he's not on something Mazda 6ish or A4 avanty, but apparently the Fords stack up better cost wise although he considers them 'pretty much dead' when he is done with them.

You pays your money.

Besides, I thought the 1.6 that Tim doesn't think much of was also a Peugeot engine.

And Volvo engines are shared with Ford aren't they, so how do they avoid the Focus' electrical problems?

The V50 is just a reskinned Focus.

...with a completely different electrical system.

Tim..
