Ford focus faults

And a big enough alternator, which varies by model.

Would it be possible that things could have changed a little over the last 30-40 years?! :-D

I had an attempt and gave up. Local garage charged me £10 labour to do both - took the guy 10mins if that.

Presumably you don't do much car maintenance then?

The boot volume vaies a lot depending if the spare wheel is a full size or a spacesaver. Mike.

330 versus 350 litres; not sure if that qualifies as a lot though.

I'd willingly forego 20 litres of space in return for a proper spare.

Me either. Chap in the garage tells me my thwortle bearing thrust compensator's on the way out, and I'm helpless ... ;-)

ObFocus: sold my Y reg petrol 1.6 zetec with 140k on the clock, and didn't have any problem during the 110k of that I owned it. Oil consumption got higher towards the end, pretty much needed 5 litres in between services. Of course, my mileage mayn't be typical, 30k per year, mostly motorway, and since losing my licence would mean losing my job, all at or below legal speeds.

Current car is a BMW diesel: 226k on the clock, and last service suggests some suspension comnponents are worn. Wonder how?

I've never driven on a space saver, how bad is it ?

ps still searching for a 1.6 ghia seems this model is popular I just missed on by 2 hours at a place. Also found one with a sunroof, non of the spec sheets say they have them so was wondering if it was a custom put in one.

Seems more zetecs are about than anything.

My first Focus, an LX, had a sunroof and aircon. Pretty rare to have both though.

Ahhh ineresting the one I found is a 2002, 1.6 ghia 43k petrol, 12 month mot, service prior to sale and sold by a focus specialist. The asking is £2975 which they said they don't negotiate and price to sell. Also has a sunroof and AC. Seems good to me. I'm planning on having a look tomorow seems to best of the bunch that I've been watching.

What do you reckon on price ?

Search on Autotrader for an idea of prices - then try eBay completed listings.

£3k is getting into MkIII money, even for a high spec. car.

Here's an example:

OK, so it has done 89k miles, but it's a 55 plate 2.0 Ghia saloon.

Much better value than a MkI 1.6 for the same money.

I hate to say it especially with you :) but your right. A search along the mkIII range doesn't seem as unaffordable as I though although why the heck are mkI's so dear!

The Mondeos of that age have numerous reliability problems, and fixes are often expensive. Over a couple of years you would be likely to pay the purchase price again.

I've found all the Fords I've owned over the last 25 years to be good value for money, but I wouldn't touch an older Mondeo.

I actually mis-read his post and was searching newer model focus's .... supringly not too dear if you don' mind travelling a bit. But I think for simplicity I'm aiming at what we were talking about previous. They maybe slightly older but do all I need. The news focus's did seem a tad bulkier.

The new Focus is as wide as a MkIII Mondeo.

Limited on speed, worse traction, and a short range on the tyre itself. At least with a real spare you can take a bit of time getting the puncture sorted.

Enough to change the rear bulbs!

They are absolutely fine. I've driven my alfa 156 with one on a couple of times following punctures.
