Ford Focus - widths?

I've googled around for the widths of Ford Focus, with mirrors, but am unable to compare a Y reg 1.6 Zetec with a new Focus.

Is the new model wider? And if so what is the difference.

Thanks

A local Ford dealer told me the new Focus is about 13cm wider than the old one, but I haven't verified this.

If you are worried about the width of your garage... Its not usually the wing mirrors that matter.. it's how far you need to open the door to get out. Unless you like going through the boot.

Mum had her garage built 18" wider than originally designed so she could get a wheelchair alongside the car. It's /still/ a bastard to get in and out.

Many couincils say 2.4 meters is the recommended minimum width and buildrs build to that. I'm building a house and garage and my Architect specified a garage 2.4 meters wide. Lucky I spotted it and had it changed to 3 meters. I did a test by parking as close to a wall as I dare (with folded wing mirror) and then opening the door with a tape under the car. At 2.4 meters we would not have been able to get out of the car. The door gap was only about 4 inches!

Eww, stop using inches.

Better than "meters". I don't know what sort of meters Watters is talking about. Gasometers? Thermometers? Voltmeters?

Anyway, on this serious subject, who saw this news article?

Isn't it bloody ridiculous? How can anybody be "astonished" that people don't use their garages? Most modern houses are still being built with stupid little side-cupboards that have been too small for most medium-sized cars for the last few decades. I've known that for donkeys' years. I don't need a Commons Select Committee to proclaim this as "astonishing". It's a simple observation that any halfwit should have made years ago. It's criminal that builders are still allowed to do build dysfunction waste-of-space garages. Why is the industry standard so far behind the demands of reality?

A few years ago a school near my sister's house in Hawkhurst was demolished and flats built in its place. It's right in the middle of town and very very cramped. The original plans showed garages, but the existing residents fought to have them deleted and an open car parking area instead because they realised that many of the garages would be filled up with stuff and the displaced cars would make an already very poor parking situation a lot worse. The car park allowed for nearly twice as many cars as the garages would have done - and obviously don't fill up with exercise bikes and plastic Christmas trees.

Nominal.

I wonder if the council will notice that my conservatory is only "nominally" the same size as the plans show?
