ford focus TDCi Duratorq

i have a 2003 Ford Focus with 35000 miles on the clock and the gearbox has started baulking on up changes especially in the cold weather when the engine is also cold. is this a cuse for concern. also the trip computer has stopped displaying the amount of mileage left on the fuel in the tank. is this an expensive repair and is it worth doing?

Dunno about the latter, but the gearbox problem may be low fluid in the gearbox, or a clutch at the end of it's life.

Is the car not still under warranty?

Don't know about the gearbox problem, but failure of the fuel gauge sender is quite common. It usually goes intermittently open circuit before total failure, so I guess that could cause the trip computer to loose track of things.

It might be worth asking in alt.autos.ford.focus.

difficult to tell without roadtesting, a common problem is the netral (i carnt spell)gear spring just under the gear lever gaiter these often snap

-only cost about £4 and half an hour to do or is it crunching into gear when the clutch is pressed? this would indicate that its inside the box (sycro and hub)

yes the fuel tank sender units are common on this year

oops should have said if its crunching in 1st gear then it could be clutch drag , only way to fix then new clutch assy as i said difficult without roadtesting
