Ford Ka creaky suspension

Mar 31, 2005 3 Replies

The o/s/r suspension on my Ka creaks when cornering (either direction) or going over a bump. Difficult to tell if it's inside or out, but I've taken out the back seat and side trim, which hasn't helped. I don't really want to pull the whole suspension apart if it's a quick fix, so has anyone had the same?

Check it's not rusting and falling to bits.

I would say from experience that your noise is actually coming from the front of the car and that its actually your lower arm bush creaking. It does sound like the noise is coming from the rear of the car but its deceiving.

If you jack the front of the car up and you can see the lower arm bush starting to separate then that's almost certainly your problem. The lower arm bushes don't last long on the Ka. If you intend keeping the car, make sure you fit a genuine Ford arm as the pattern parts last even less than the Ford ones (again from experience).

What he said. The SO's Ka recently failed MOT on lower bush (amongst other things), local garage fitted a pattern and it creaked even when setting off. They replaced with a genuine Ford part and it's been fine since. Well for Ka values of fine, it'll be on Autotrader in the next few weeks and is being replaced by a Polo.
