Frontera 2.3td engines - load of rubbish?

Mar 19, 2007 4 Replies

Anyone have an opinion on these? I know Fronteras themselves have a lousy reputation, but have just bought a scrap one with a 2.3 turbo diesel engine that has knackered its oil pump. First thought is to strip off a few bits and weigh the rest in for scrap, but could do with an opinion as to whether I'd be better off replacing the oil pump and trying to sell the engine (and gearbox together?). The engine runs sweetly enough and hasn't been driven long enough for the bearings to go.

Pretty noisy, underpowered and unrefined to be honest! The Isuzu 2.5 /

2.8's are far better.

Tim..

I understand that they are much in demand as a breaker. So AFAIK it would be a good one to put a pump on and advertise.

Sounds promising. I may as well have a go at removing the old one before making my mind up. Also depends how much something like the injection pump would sell for on its own of course.

Ta for the reply.

I can quite believe that. I don't actually have a use for the thing myself (already have a nice Peugeot 2.5TD engine waiting for my next project anyway!), so it's just a case of how to get the most money out of it.
