Golf Gearbox lumpy when cold

Jan 21, 2004 3 Replies

The gear change on my mk3 Golf diesel is pretty awful when the car is cold, but improves considerably if I drive around a bit. The car had a full service in Aug 2003 so would that rule out transmission oil??

This is my first Golf and first diesel so any help would be much appreciated.

TIA

They are all like that Sir. At least my mk1 was a b****d.

Huw

After Rover started using ATF in SD1 boxes I tried it in my P6 3500S - although of course it was never a recommendation. Made a vast difference to the cold shift quality.

I've heard swapping transmission oil for semi (or was it fully) synthetic oil helps. This won't be a part of any full service though.
