I think my golf (1997 gti 16v) could have a worn gearbox linkage. I have been having difficulty selecting 1st gear recently and yesterday morning I have difficulty selecting 5th.
My neighbour (who is a mechanic) says that the linkage is not a rod like on most cars but operates on cables. Can anyone confirm if the symptoms described above are symptoms of worn gear linkages. How much is a new/recon linkage assembly going to cost?
