Grey Smoke :(

Hi all,

Okay, I can't give too many details on this, so I know its a bit of an open-ended question, but here goes...

Have a 95 Cav, 2.0 Ecotech engine, last few weeks when its started from cold (needs an overnight rest or 9 hours at work), the second the ignition hits I get a plume of grey (bad!) smoke from the exhaust - whatever is burning burns off in a second (or at least the smoke subsides within a couple of seconds), and the volume of smoke isn't that bad. Oil level doesn't seem to be diminishing (still hovering around "Max" after last oil change - 2 months ago).

About to go check plugs etc., but in the mean time, anything obvious I should start looking for?

Regards

Mike.

over fueling? semi flooding, the grey is unburnt fuel. often very easy to sort, unlike blue smoke.

Could be a slightly leaky injector. The fuel system stays pressurized after you turn the engine off, so if one is weeping, fuel will pool in the manifold waiting for the next startup. As a test, you could try stopping the engine by pulling the fuel pump fuse one evening, so the system stays un-pressurized over night. Then see if the smoke is still there in the morning.

Cheers,

Colin.
