stud work

Sep 10, 2004 5 Replies

Took my car to ASCAR in Sheffield as i need a new exhaust, the whole lot as its all thats left for MOT on the 77 GT Celica, got it there and they said they wont touch it as it has 3 studs to exhaust manifold, 1 snapped a bit inside.

Anyway, found someone who can do it early Sat morning, how long does it take and a rough guess on cost? Driling out and maybe tapping.

I need it urgent (spent 3 days waiting for ASCAR to take it in) as im filming in London next week with Quietin Wilson.

That reads so well with the thread Subject!

Without knowing how accessible it is, who can say. If it can be done in situ, drilling, tapping, and helicoiling on it's own, should take less than a hour. If the manifold needs to be removed, which is usually the case, you'd have a better idea than anyone of how long that will take. As for cost, an 8mm Helicoil insert costs about 50p, add to that their hourly rate, manifold gasket, etc and you can work it out for yourself. Mike.

Nope, it seems no one else thinks it is too. Damn good car, all my Celica's were. Heres a pic of my car before i had to put the fibreglass wing on.
