Was at £79.99 now £40 so 50% I thought they could come in handy, but was put off with the 80 quid price tag at £40 worth a punt. Thought i'd share my my find you :)

Peter smith gurgled happily, sounding much like they were saying:

Shame they're not the swivel-headed ones, but - even so - these truly are a thing of joy to use. £40 is excellent value.

As they are not swivel head I would certainly not pay 40 quid for them. I have had fixed ones in the past and found them to be of very limited value. Costco have a lovely set of swivel head ones which were (off the top of my head) about 20 or 25 for the set, fabulous value and work well.

With hindsight on a few jobs having these gems would have made a few nightmare jobs a pain free experience lol.

Defintely worth £40, I just popped out to get a set. Very impressive. Alot of the halfords stuff is impressive but a little expensive, but that said usually very good for use. Sometimes its nice having a good set of tools, I only use quality tools now, after years of replacing cheap ones and ripped knuckles I saw the light :)

I think I paid £40 for my swivel head set from Halfords however that was with a trade card.

I quite often find the head surround is too thick and end up back with a socket.

Sadly I just had a look on costco website, which to go there you need some kind of membership and proof your a business, which sadly I am not.

Last year I tried getting into macro when I was told its not open to the public and needed similar documents for membership.

I was mainly just curious to what they have and how much really, if theres a saving there to be had.

Especially true on limited access nuts just where a ratchet is needed. Like the nuts I have on a turbo flange that I have to do with a cut down open ender and turn it over every stroke. It's cut down as it's swing would be though the bulkhead. A ring won't go on as the stud projects too close to the body [1]. It has to flipped over as there isn't room for a 60° stroke.

[1] no room to file it down unless whole manifold taken off at a cost of £80 in gaskets. A ratchet head would still foul the turbo inlet and I'd have to cut another spanner as I cut the open end off with 2/3 shank and bit with ring is kinda short.

Produce a City and Guilds certificate like I did or a letter from your employer.

Think them's the ones I have, Crescent? Excellent quality and great warranty as well. What do you reckon to the Crescent socket set they often have?

You can have individual costco membership rather than trade membership, the conditions are less onerous. Makro are more difficult than costco and are atrocious as regards customer service. How far is your nearest costco? they are very friendly and will help with getting you as a member. Costco charge a yearly membership fee, but if you decide it is not for you then you can have a refund, their refund service is second to none, no questions or argument, just instant refund. As you may gather I really like costco and use them a lot, both for home and work. IIRC I just produced a few bills and my home done billheads to get trade membership (which means you can get in at ten am and have a free coffee and cake.) I have now gone for executive membership which costs a bit more for the membership but gets you 2per cent extra (max 400 quid) off in the form of a cheque at renewal time. Any questions just ask.

Union, etc, membership will get you a card too. But of course it's not free, so it depends on how much you'd use it.

The spanners are marked as Mastergrip, I can't remember if that is part of Crescent. The head size is very slim considering there is a ratchet in there, only 7mm clearance around the nut is needed, not much more than an impact socket thickness.

I know the socket set you mean, it is incredible value for money. my neighbour bought one and it is excellent in use.

Or be an employerr of a utility company.

That was how the missus got her individual membership, rather than a business employee staff card.

She doesn't work there anymore, but they still renew her card and my spouse card each year. Just need to qualify at the time, and then you can renew any time you want.

Oh, and it is worth checking Costco in other countries if you visit regularly. US cards are accepted here, and UK Cards in the US, and a colleague of mine had a Korean card on his dads account. Checked Costco UK and they said sure, bring it in as proof and we will give you a UK one.

According to the Halford's website, you should be able to get one if you buy a "high volume" of parts. I turned up with receipts showing that I bought something like £400 worth of bits a month (was restoring a car at the time, and buy any parts for my girlfriend's car etc.) and they weren't interested. TBH, it's of limited value unless you want to buy things on a Sunday, as most motorfactors are cheaper than Halford's trade prices.
