Help - with MOTs. dizzy female with first car

My car is due for its MOT soon. £ things are wrong with it (i thinik)

- one of the front light covers is missing from over the indicator bit only, the bulb is not open to the elements but the glass cover is broken (no sharp edges tho)

- the boot does not stay open, its hydraulic thing is broken, will this fail the MOT

- When the engine is started it makes a squeaky noise for a bit (longer if its cold)

how will these things affect the MOT? please help!!

The only thing on this list that would be a problem would be the broken indicator lens.

This will fail it.

No, as long as it's secure in the locked position.

This is not a failure - however, it may indicate trouble. Start the car. Now, turn on the rear window demister, and headlights. Does the noise get louder? If so, this is a loose fanbelt - probably, which is relatively easy to fix.

Personally, unless you are really, really stupid (As Seen on Reality TV) I'd advise getting a haynes manual for your car.

This and some really, really basic tools will let you do minor maintainance on the car.

Very little of this requires actual physical strength, indeed small stature may be a benefit in getting tools into things.

Ebay is a good source for parts, if you're not willing to go to scrapyards, and remove them yourself.

What they said. Plus, can you possibly get a male to take the car in for it's test? Garages know you know nothing about cars, and some will treat this as a licence to print money. Shouldn't happen, but it does.

lozkp was thinking very hard :

It must show amber, with no white visible anywhere from any angle of viewing the lens. It sounds like you probably need to replace it.

Not a problem.

Fan/water pump/alternator drive belt old or loose. It comes under its heaviest load when the engine has just started and the alternator is trying to replenish the battery.

I thought £ things wrong with it was a pretty good description of a car about to go in for it's test. I've known cars that had ££££££ things wrong with them.
