Though we had the 1.6 and the 2.0 diesel. Loved 'em both.
And anyway I've the TD Montego estate now and rarely use all the power available - which ain't vast anyway. I don't suppose I floor the pedal more than once in a hundred miles.

OMG...someone who actually thinks what that plank has to say holds any merit.

He can't clean up a scored camshaft or burnt oil caked inside the cam cover.

There was no issue as this was after I had taken delivery of the new car and he was in posession of the old one.

The MG efi was all of those things, although quite scary if you hurried it, IMO.
Vastly underated car, and I imagine the 1.6 can't be all that bad either.
1.3 might be a bit lacking, going by the way my 1300 Metro struggles.

Would that be the same 'cunning sales people' from whom the car you buy must have a FSH?
I wouldn't know as I've never bought a car from a dealer. What is a FSH except stamps in a book. Without invoices it doesn't mean a damn thing.

There is a great irony with this coming from you.

Yes, that's quite possible. But it gives you the option to ask him more questions. Did he do it himself? If yes, what else has he done and look for proof on the car, if no, where did he get it done, what did they do, how much did they charge him, does he have any invoices?
As a general rule of thumb, if the car has had a spring clean (valet, engine steam clean, brand new MOT, serviced) I'm very wary. I tend to think "What are they hiding" rather than "Oh doesn't it look lovely". Whereas if it's in a normal, ordinary, 'used' condition with clean(ish) oil at the right level and it kicks first time and runs sweet I tend to be interested.

Trust me, it was.
lack of general lubrication being the main problem.

Yebbut I'm just a bloke on Usenet. I'm not some arse being paid to perpetuate the latest uninformed self opinionated bullshit as legitimate fact to the entire readership of a newspaper.
