Astra 1.6 Estate (2001)

Hi, while looking at another problem today, i found another.

Can anyone tell me what the bit in the below image is for (the solid type pipe) hightlighted in red. where the pipe connects into the engine there is like a rubber seal on the top to hold it in place and it has totally split open.

it connects back to this

you cant see on the above pic but it connects to the same unit where the red clip is on.

Any advise ?

Other than the problem with my reverse light, i found this.

What is it ?

Thanks

The lump would appear to be the idle air control valve (maintains idle speed, especially when cold) So you should definitely get a new bit of rubber pipe ASAP, or for a short term fix use some silicone to seal the split.

Sorry should have said the pipe appears to be solid (metal) the seal where it joins the engine is rubber ( i assume ) the bit circled in red on the first image. Thanks

it would be a main dealer only part, the bit it attaches to is the throttle body, it may be seperately available to the pipe, but would be glued on, so don't be surprised to buy the whole thing, describe it as the rubber connector for the idle air control valve where it joins the throttle body' The dealer will pull up a picture of the whole lot and you should get it from there. If you go in that car you can always ask the parts person to look !

systemtek brought next idea :

That looks like an Idle Air Control Valve. Does the split go all the way through the rubber? Self amalgamating tape stretched and wrapped around it would repair it, it does need to be stretched tightly to work.
