I need help with an ignition problem with my 1988 Mk2 Astra. When cold the car will start and the engine will run normally. As the engine warms up it will only idle, any attempt to rev the engine causes it to cut out with no spark. If then left for around twenty minutes, the spark is back and the engine will then re-start. I have tried changing the coil, and the ignition module in the distributor (2nd hand) - but the fault still exists. What is happening when the engine warms up to cause it to cut out? Could it be a fault with the Oil temperature sensor? Any advice will be much appreciated.

I had one where the connector to the distributor was faulty, I cut off a second-hand one and soldered it on, there were no further problems

It could be that one or more leads, either LT or HT (probably the main HT lead in this case), is going "floppy" when it gets warm and breaking a contact, in which case look carefully for cracked leads.
Are you sure it's electrical? Could be a blocked jet in the carb; when the engine's first started it'll run rich and you won't notice the problem until the choke's off. Does it die instantly or struggle to run?

I had a similar problem years ago. It was the condenser. A new one put it right.

My friend had the same problem, on his N reg Astra he had to take it to a Vauxhall garage they found that the water temp sender was faulty. At the time I couldn't see a link here, but thinking about it long and hard it does sound like a cold/hot related fault.
