Insurance claim?

The wife's car got 'dun over' this evening. They took the radio. That'd be a bottom of the range CD player RDS thing. We still have the fascia since she's pretty good about taking it with her.

To get in the lovely young gentlemen ended up smashing a quarterlight on the back passenger side.

Unfortunately this was after they'd tried to do the locks.

I wouldn't have had a Skoda Felicia down as a hard nut to crack.

I have a car with holes in the doors where the key wossnames used to be. The keyhole thingy fished from the inside of the passenger door looks to be pretty much wrecked.

I assume that the easiest route will be a new lockset, new ignition barrel, new stereo and new quarterlight along with door skins for the two doors they went for.

The no-claims is already screwed due to an insurance company cave in on a car park accident where the other driver was speeding on the wrong side of the road and scrubbed his flared wheel on the bumper to derange the suspension.

Or 2nd hand doors from a scrappy, you may even be able to get a full set of barrels from the same car.

You are supposed to tell your insurer of all accidents, no matter who is to blame.

My daughter ran out of road 1 night and flattened a sign post. 1st year driving, in fact 1st month. She phoned up the insurers to tell them of th accident, for information only, as she was not claiming. Car was written off thou.

New replacement car did not put the premium up. Until the year was up and the next years premium shot throu the roof. Only to find the insurers had not 'ticked' the for information box. Insurance dropped down then.

I doubt I could find a pair of doors in perfect nick and the same colour. She likes the dark metallic green and I really don't fancy all the work of stripping a couple of scrapper doors, prepping and spraying them to match.

Plus we've bothered to do something about the no fault scrape on a rear wheel arch that was done by an idiot watching a rugby match when he should have been driving so they're going to sort that out at the same time.

The stereo that is coming as a replacement is a much better one than the bottom of the range Goodmans that I'd put in.

The only problem we currently have is that the insurance covers for a suitable courtesy car. Minimum suitability is a car that can carry two adults, toddler, old english sheepdog and associated crud. That's a bit bigger than the Micra offered initially.

They've always asked me about "accidents, claims or convictions" - but never "break ins, thefts or vandalism".
