Ka stalling

I have been away in America for the last 3 months, while I've been away my parents have been driving my car - although it hasnt been serviced.

Now, coming up to a motorway roundabout the other day I was changing down gears and braking at the same time. Once I checked there was nothing coming I went to turn to enter the roundabout and the steering felt dead, the clutch was still pushed down at this point (disengaged) and I looked down and the lights had come on signifying a stall, luckily when I let the clutch out it bump started and was fine for the rest of the journey. This has happened a few times since, usually when slowing down for junctions and roundabouts while on the brakes. At first I thought it was just me not being used to driving again but it has happened to my parents driving the car. Sometimes when you come up to junctions just as the car stops when the clutch is in and your on the brakes it will stutter and almost stall.

Any ideas what the problem might be?

Regards

Ben

What age is it?

It could be a few things - the idle control valve being gummed up is the favourite, but if it's an early one (pre 1998) it could be the wiring loom problem.

V - 1999

Yea it was over-revving a few years ago - and apparently that was the problem..

So just take it to bits and clean it yea?

Hopefully - although they do wear out, and new ones are a little bit expensive...

Hehehe!

Mind you, with your driving, it's probably worn out! :)

In the Haynes it says when replacing this you need new O-rings when putting the idle control valve back together. I went to Ford today and they said they dont sell the O-rings seperatly - only the whole unit for £45. Do I need new O-rings to clean the idle control valve???

Thanks

An O ring is generally a ring made out of rubber or plastic in the shape of an O. They can be bought loads of places. You might not need to replace them, a smear of oil normally does the trick, anyway.

Not if they are in good condition as they invariably are.
