& in Belgium they look terrified if you do give way :-)

It will require an about face, though, as all recent measures seem to have been designed to slow down traffic flow and force traffic away from that area.

Yep. Portugal too. I stopped for a mother with two kids, a baby in a pushchair and loads of shopping but she looked horrified and waved me to carry on...

Wheras in Germany the car drivers get cross if you don't cross in front of them when they're turning right.
